Alright so what’s a bit of girl watching without an appropriate soundtrack. What we’ve got here is an overview of the songs about skinhead girls (in no particular order and this is a work in progress) :

“Skinhead Girl” - This one’s a gimme, I will admit. Pretty sure this one originated with Symarip, but I honestly do not know if they wrote it. The song has covered by about every band within a mile of the skinhead scene, including The Specials, The Oppressed, Patriot, Bad Manners, Murphy’s Law, Section 5 and Sheer Terror. (Young) Pioneers even ripped the (Oppressed’s version’s) instrumentation off for “Downtown Tragedy” on their Lookout LP. Whether this was intentional or the subconscious power of the song’s titular girls, who can say. Anyways for my money The Symarip and Oppressed versions are the essential two, because I just can’t feel that Two Tone revival ska crap and almost every other version just straight up sucks (though the (Y)P song is real ace, it’s not really relevant here).

“Skinhead Girl Warrior” - This title first surfaced on the mid-1990’s incarnation of WarZone’s side of their split with the reformed Cause For Alarm. The song’s been covered a few times, including on Last Resort’s 2005 “comeback” album. Nothing special here (though the song does have a nice corny classic rock solo). “Skinhead Girl Warrior” doesn’t stir the imagination nearly as much as the “He went to get the WarZone women…” rejoinder on the intro to WarZone’s first LP.

“Yes She Is My Skinhead Girl” - Ok, this Unrest tune is a bit out of left field for this list, I admit it. However it’s also probably the only number on this list that could’ve been a legit hit. Hypnotic mod shit, the song appeared on the UK version of “Imperial f.f.r.r.” and in the states it was the titular song of an EP on K.

“All the Skinhead Girls” - Red London song, from one of their more recent albums.

“Renees” - Brilliant “bubblegum Oi!” (I read them described as such once, and it’s so spot on, I had to steal it) number from the all-girl Gymslips. Though it avoids the actual phrase “skinhead girl,” the songs reference point is obvious and this might be my favorite song on the subject…1, 2, 3, and up your bum!
