Vice magazine continues their forays into the cult with this brief interview with notable skinhead photo maven, Gavin Watson. Known primarily for his book Skins Gavin lived the life he documented, and in this bit discusses the often overshadowed role, especially given the rise of the National Front and their co-opting of the shaven head and heavy boot look, of black skinheads in the late 70s. Its been a bit, yes I know, but we’re still here, pining away for the downward spiral of our favored footie club (FC Barcelona), drowning our sorrows in pint after pint while the strains of sweet soul music fill the air. Riotous Assembly was more of a necessity than an idea. During 1981 so many bands were springing up all over the UK, making demo tapes, doing gigs, and generally having a damned good rant at the world, that we (Riot City) were gently pursuaded into releasing a selection of these bands, together with a few more established Riot City bands.
